Einst auf  400 KM Schiffbar, dann stillgelegt, jetzt wieder auf 2 Abschnitten fahrbar fließt der Lot durch die französischen Departements Lot und Lot et Garonne.
Im ersten Abschnitt fließt der Fluß durch tiefe Schluchten des Quercy von Larnagol bis Luzech (76 KM), vorbei an Sainte Cirque Lapopie, einem malerischen Ort hoch über dem Lot auf einem Felsen. Die Schleusen sind per Kurbel bedienbar, man benötigt kein Permis o.ä. Bis auf ein paar Charterboote und Angler kein Schiffsverkehr. Das große Wehr in Luzech (+ weitere flussabwärts) verhindert die Weiterfahrt, auch wenn stromab auf einer Länge von 20 KM weitere Schleuen instandgesetzt worden sind. Durch die Wehre in Fumel und St. Vite lohnt es aber nicht, die Boote in diesem Abschnitt einzusetzen. Weiterfahrt sinnvollerweise erst ab St. Vite. (Unterlauf bis zur Garonne)
